In particular, we shall address the following: -- taking minutes of session meetings -- preparing the annual review of session minutes -- filling out session's statistical report -- knowing the rudiments of parliamentary procedure -- assisting the moderator Clerks of session provide an invaluable service to the church and should therefore bring nothing less than their best to their work. Music in the Reformed Tradition as reflected in the new Presbyterian Hymnal - Nash Noble -Nash Noble is a music faculty member of Milsaps College in Jackson, and a member of Fondren Presbyterian Church. She has twenty-five years experience directing choirs and is now serving as Chaplain at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland, Mississippi.” The Visual Arts in Worship - Lynn Miller Are you a member of the Bezalel Fan Club? Do you know who Bezalel is? Bezalel was one of the artists filled with God's spirit to devise artistic designs for the tabernacle. Read his story in Exodus 31, and then come to class to discover how his legacy lives today in worship. The class will offer resources, foundations and ideas for incorporating the visual arts in your private devotional life and in your congregation's corporate worship life. -Lynn Miller holds the B.F.A. in graphic design from Mississippi University for Women and the M.A. in the history of art from the University of Georgia. Her master’s thesis, titled "A Pure and Legitimate Use: Vestiges of Calvinist Theology in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century Charleston (SC) Artists of Huguenot Descent", explored John Calvin’s theology of art. She worked as a museum educator, designing adult and children’s programming for a regional art museum and for an historical house museum. An ordained Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Lynn also holds the Master of Divinity degree from Union -PSCE (formerly Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education). She has also completed the Doctor of Ministry degree from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Her doctoral project was the basis for "Living Stones, I Presume", a congregational program on church architecture. Mission in a Mish-Mash World - Norma Loposser How to serve up a mission life when everyone around you is cooking up chaos and confusion. -Norma Loposser,a member of Handsboro Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, is the Spiritual Leadership Developer for the Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of Mississippi. She is also a Commissioned Lay Pastor pastor for Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Heidelberg, Ms. A Ministry of Supervision - Lee Carroll This seminar serves two purposes. First, participants will receive basic information about how a congregation can partner with a PCUSA seminary to become a teaching congregation. How do we apply? What is expected? How are internships for student pastors structured? What skills are required for those who supervise pastoral interns? Second, participants will also explore ways that pastors and church leaders can be effective supervisors—not only with seminary students but with others with whom they work. How do we engage in theological reflection about our life and ministry together? How do we develop ministry goals that help us learn and serve together? How do we assess our progress? - Lee Carroll is the Associate Professor of Supervised Ministry at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, where he has served since 1983. He is an ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA), and prior to joining the faculty of Columbia, he served pastorates in Louisville, KY and Charleston WV. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi (B.S.) and Columbia Theological Seminary (M.Div). He is a native of Laurel, MS. He is married to Betty Wilby Carroll, and they have two grown children. Kaleidoscope Seminar for Youth: - Rev Scott Castleman Jesus’ Ipod: Who’s He Bumpin’? -The son and grandson of Presbyterian pastors, Scott grew up just outside of New Orleans in Arabi, Louisiana. His family moved away from New Orleans when his father received a call to pastor Covenant Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee, FL. Upon graduating high school in Tallahassee, Scott followed his brother Dayton to Jackson, MS where he attended Belhaven College and received a BA in Biblical studies. He met Rebecca Osborne at Belhaven and they married shortly after his graduation in 1998. Scott remained in Jackson for four years as he worked as the youth minister of Covenant Presbyterian Church. He went from there to attend Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando as well as Princeton Theological Seminary where he earned his Masters of Divinity degree. Scott received a call to pastor both Handsboro Presbyterian Church and Orange Grove Presbyterian Church (now New Life Community Church) in Gulfport. He and Rebecca have three wonderful children; a daughter Tyler (5) and sons Eben and Tate (3 and 1). |
